Welcome to our weekly update, a highlights package of the week in Repressed Records.

Firstly, what have we enjoyed listening to this week? The first Lp by two piece blackened doom band Ragana “Wash away” is bleak but lovely too.  I’m pretty sure George Best once came to play soccer for Blacktown City when I was a kid and never showed up. Anyway, George Best is also an album  by the most underrated band ever, Wedding Present. This LP is a live version of the album recorded in the studio with Steve Albini in 2008 while they were playing 20th anniversary shows for the album and it kicks.  The self titled compilation from Blind Owl Wilson is back, collecting his best moments from Canned Heat. Never liked them til I heard this. Smart Dads “Bummer Summer” is a great piece of Texas punk rock from 1982. It’s on a single sided LP with an etched B-side. Of all the albums with etched b-sides, this would be the only one i’d own. Or maybe there was a Roky Erickson re-issue with one? So let’s make that two. I don’t have any picture discs, which is why i've been ostracized online by metal vinyl communities.

Feature Items

NAZORANAI - Beginning To Fall In Line Before Me, So Decorously, The Nature Of All That Must Be Transformed LP  Nazoranai is the supergroup of Keiji Haino, Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O’Malley. Haino has been a legendary figure in Japan’s avant-garde community through his commanding presence in the band Fushitsusha and numerous solo ventures. Ambarchi, a prolific electro-acoustic composer of heavy ambience and hypno-rock, has long stood at the leading edge of Australia’s experimental music scene, while O’Malley remains a principle architect for the drone / doom metal project Sunn O))) in harnessing extreme sub-harmonic frequencies.

CONTENTS ARE, THE - Four Each Other - 1969 LP  Classic piece of forgotten mid-west US psych from lendary Iowa band Contents Are, released for the first time in 2017!

JOHN MAUSE - Screen Memories LP (Out Friday) Drown in the silky synths! We'll have a few of the ltd edition silver vinyl and the good ol' black vinyl. His last album We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves was great so I can't wait to hear his first album in six years.

MOCTAR, MDOU - Sousoume Tamachek LP  I went and saw Mdou Moctar live at the Sydney Festival at the beginning of the year, and the they were sensational. His latest album is a lovely, reflective (I think, he's from Niger) piece of work

ARIEL PINK - Dedicated To Bobby Jameson LP  I reckon Ariel is underrated, or maybe not taken seriously enough. This is a more intimate album with a bit of a DIY feel.

WIREHEADS - Lightning Ears LP (should be in for the weekend)
Adelaide's finest return on Brisbanes finest, the mighty Tenth Court label

PALLBEARER • Sorrow and Extinction LP

COWLEY, PATRICK • Afternooners LP  Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records have teamed up once more to release the final volume of gay porn soundtracks by San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. One of the most revolutionary and influential figures in the canon of disco, Cowley created his own brand of Hi-NRG dance music, “The San Francisco Sound.” Born in Buffalo, NY on October 19, 1950, Patrick moved to San Francisco in 1971 to study at the City College of San Francisco. He founded the Electronic Music Lab at the school, where he would make experimental soundtracks by blending various types of music and adapting them to the synthesizer

A. SAVAGE • Thawing Dawn LP

OBNOX • Murder Radio LP

EDWARDS, HONEYBOY • Worried Blues LP

WIESE, JOHN • Escaped Language LP  Escaped Language is a concise and calculated piece which slowly evolved in various settings over a number of years. While 2015’s Deviate From Balance 2xLP was expansive and chronicled performances and work employing many other musicians, here Wiese dissects and reassembles portions of his vocabulary alone. Simultaneously dense and sparse, delicate and abrasive, free and tactical, the resulting recording stands as a substantial document of his approach to sound, twenty-five years into his prolific tenure.

SONIC YOUTH • Daydream Nation LP

WEDDING PRESENT • George Best 30 LP

FUZZ • II LP
