TERMINALS • Antiseptic     The Terminals are the best rock band New Zealand has ever produced. Period. There’s heavy competition, but believe it. No group has lasted over three decades and maintained such intensity, structure and mood better than the core team of Steven Cogle and Peter Stapleton. Cogle’s voice is a quavering incantation of deep spell-casting, throwing more dirt onto already gritty guitar squalls. Stapleton’s rhythm section propels songs through lightning charges of tempo and energy. Age has only embedded the band’s mastery of deep sonic realms. The ten years between their last album, Last Days of the Sun, and the release of Antiseptic whip by in a flash when these records are played next to each other—they never disappoint, they never relent.

DILLOWAY, AARON • The Gag File  Hundreds of releases and countless live performances littered the path that lead to 2012’s Modern Jester, artist AARON DILLOWAY's last major artistic statement as a solo artist and one his most well received documents since leaving WOLF EYES, the prolific noise troupe that Dilloway co-founded in the late '90s with musician Nate Young. Within these pieces, we find a surreal treasure hunt that helps guide us through Dilloway’s obsessions, neurosis and influences while also developing a splintered maturity of someone with great complexity stumbling through a well thought out, yet totally unplanned “long game” of an artistic career. Since then, Dilloway has been busy collaborating with the likes of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Jason Lescalleet, releasing various short form sketches and running his retail outpost, Hanson Records, while slowly working on his next major album, The Gag File. Introducing itself with the cover image of a posed dummy ready for his yearbook portraiture, The Gag File pick up right where Modern Jester left off; its identity is directly tied to an absurdly uncomfortable head shot that stays permanently fixed in the listener’s mind whenever the album is summoned. The opening track, “Ghost”, sets the heartbeat for the record. A rogue pulse that becomes lost in a disjointed, trapdoor loop but becomes even more unorthodox as Dilloway introduces himself through parable of jumbled, confused vocals and phrasing. Past this point, nothing in this record is typical or expected

FORESEEN HKI • Grave Danger  Returning a few years and a few tours after their debut album Helsinki Savagery set the world ablaze, Finland’s Foreseen HKI are back with the topically resonant savage crossover burst Grave Danger, their second album for 20 Buck Spin.

LIFE'S BLOOD • Hardcore A.D. 1988  LIFE'S BLOOD were a legendary short lived band from New York City. Formed in 1987, The band played 20 shows and recorded two radio shows, a demo at Don Fury, one 7-inch, "Defiance," released on Combined Effort Records and appeared on the seminal New Breed tape comp in 1988. In these short 14 months as a band they left an indelible mark on the history of hardcore punk, as their sharp, earnest, and challenging lyrics backed with remarkably sturdy, dissonant and distorted hardcore songs emerged at a time where the focus of underground hardcore had been blurred by commercialism, crossover and violence. Hardcore A.D. 1988 collects 27 songs from their Defiance EP, demo tape, compilation tracks, their posthumous split EP with Sticks And Stones, WFMU and WNYU recordings and live tracks, Members went on to play in BORN AGAINST, MENACE DEMENT, SINKING BODY, MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT COLLAPSE and MY RIFLE. Features new liner notes from guitarist ADAM NATHANSON, extensive band notes compiled by bassist NEIL BURKE and a ton of photos and flyers. The LP comes in a Stoughton tip-on gatefold with a 11x22" insert and download card.

CONRAD, TONY • Ten Years Alive On The Infinite Plain LP and on CD  Ten Years Alive On The Infinite Plain is the quintessential work of artist/filmmaker/composer Tony Conrad. Comprised of both film installation and minimalist score for amplified strings, Ten Years leaps across genre and medium to connect his revolutionary structural filmmaking with the experiments in long-duration sound that Conrad had begun in the 1960s as part of the Theatre of Eternal Music.

BONNIE PRINCE BILLY • Best Troubador    With Best Troubador, BONNIE PRINCE BILLY pays homage to a long-time and forever hero, the late Merle Haggard. A singer who, some 25 years previously, first performed in public by playing a Merle Haggard song, Bonny has often cited Merle’s work in performance, on records and in conversation with anyone who was around, even talking to Merle himself for Filter magazine in 2009.
V/A • Brown Acid - The Fourth Trip  If you thought we were getting close to the end of the Brown Acid series with our last Trip, you were dead wrong…we’re only just getting rolling. The well of privately released hard rock, heavy psych, and proto-metal 45s is deep and we are nowhere near tapped out.  Most of these records were barely released and never properly distributed so they ain’t easy to find, but they’re out there if you’re willing to dig…and we aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty.  Hard calluses have formed from handling the shovel and we’ve sifted through a lot of dirt, but we’ve dug up another ten tremendous records to share with all the heavy heads out there.  This volume brings together eight insanely rare and skull-crushingly heavy 45s as well as two previously unreleased bangers.

PIN GROUP • Go To Town  New Zealand's Pin Group emerged out of the early '80s Christchurch scene and, with just two stunning singles and one brilliant five-song EP, have become an archetype for nearly all indie bands ever since. Ambivalence was not only The Pin Group's hypnotic debut, but also the very first release on Flying Nun. While guitarist Roy Montgomery, bassist Ross Humphries and drummer Peter Stapleton build off each other's jittery riffs, Montgomery's uncanny baritone pierces the torrential clangor. Conjuring both Wire's Chairs Missing and VU's White Light/White Heat, the band captures a truly unique sound – evocative, yet austere.

MOUNTAIN GOATS • Goths (Limited Indie Store Version)  includes a 16-page booklet. Vinyl versions cut at 45 rpm and feature gatefold jackets with spot gloss. Limited edition version pressed on opaque red (LP1 & LP2) and tracklight green (bonus 12-inch).

AND THE REST OF THE GOODIES:

ORANSSI PAZUZU • Farmokologinen  Since 2013 Finland’s Oranssi Pazuzu has released two critically lauded full length albums via 20 Buck Spin in North America, 2013’s Valonielu and 2016’s Värähtelijä. Both albums showed the boundless enormity and remarkable uniqueness that this band alone creates. Are they a psych-influenced black metal band or a black-metal-influenced psych band? No one knows for sure and it doesn’t matter anyway—no other band bends these genres into such an extraordinarily cohesive whole.

PESSIMIST • Through The Fog / Peter Hitchens  The Bristol-based producer made an indelible mark on 2016 with an unmistakable signature sound that effortlessly bridges dnb, techno, and abyssal/industrial sound design. His forthcoming debut album will be out on Blackest Ever Black. To prepare the ground, the label have cut two of its heaviest weapons to white label: "Through The Fog," a slab of neo-junglist soundsystem pressure chopping bit-crushed breaks, clipped vocal licks, and bass drones and "Peter Hitchens," a "tribute" in broken techno to the columnist, driven by BMB-style dropforge drums and a tripped-out ARP synth line. Edition of 350.

Guided By Voices’ August By Cake is the one hundredth studio album that Robert Pollard has released since 1986’s Forever Since Breakfast. To put that in perspective, Bob Dylan has released roughly thirty nine studio albums since 1959. And that includes the Traveling Wilburys. This is a highly anticipated record, which includes the new line-up (returning GBV veterans Doug Gillard and Kevin March, virgins Bobby Bare Jr and Mark Shue) that has been wowing audience in clubs and festivals throughout 2016

COLD SWEAT • Blinded   H
ugely influential and genre defining trashy hardcore punk from these Washington weirdos. With influences like Gauze, No Comment, Coltrane, Sabbath and Siege as a starting point, COLD SWEATt set out to write the ultimate truth. And so they did. Blinded is a taut, 20-minute wire ready to snap, whip and scar. Stand clear. Better yet, stand in the way and feel what you have been missing since it's posthumous release in 2004. For his second album, Two Solo Pieces, Jon Gibson forgoes the dense, multi-layered timbres of Visitations in favor of simple textures and tone. While Two Solo Pieces serves up further evidence of Gibson's centrality to American minimalism – witness its inclusion in Alan Licht's famed Minimal Top Ten list – this profoundly intimate record also reveals the beauty of enclosed spaces and infinite harmonic vistas.
