Various Artists - Follow The Sun (2 LP) Follow The Sun compiles twenty cuts dug from dusty bins by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring) and Keith Abrahamsson (Founder / Head of A&R at Anthology Recordings and Mexican Summer) surveying the sought after sound of Australia’s lesser — and greater — known moments of ‘70s rock, folk, and their in-between offspring. Follow The Sun filters the sublime and sometimes subversive psychedelic airwaves transmitted around the world from America’s terrestrial platforms during the golden age of gentle, exploratory FM through a distinctly Australian lens.
Independent labels and recording studios proliferated across Australia during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, while major labels simultaneously scoured the furthest reaching corners of the continent to foster new approaches in making music. With both indies and majors ultimately compelled to uncover the almighty single, the fringe was frequently explored for “crossover” sounds. This engendered a creative freedom amongst artists that mirrored the open-ended mood of the times.
Holy Balm - Activity Mixes 12" After the success of their second album Activity, Sydney wonky house trio Holy Balm return with a remix EP, featuring Activity tracks reworked by Moon B, Andras and Zanzibar Chanel. Melbourne house monsters Zanzibar Chanel contribute possibly their recorded swan-song, with a squelching, grunting, irresistible take on Circumstance. US boogie funk magician Moon B, known for releases on Peoples Potential Unlimited and 1080P, draws out the brittle dreaminess of All Night Long.
Mac Demarco - This Old Dog We have the limited indie edition red vinyl version of his new LP in now.
No Zu - Body2Body2Body 12" Remix 12" BODY2BODY2BODY, featuring tracks from NO ZU's 2016 album Afterlife remixed by A Certain Ratio, Jonny Sender (Konk) and NO ZU themselves.
Clowns - Lucid Again LP Bursting with psychedelic swirling guitars, electrifying riffs and explosive vocals, ‘Lucid Again’ is the third LP from Melbourne's unstoppable CLOWNS. The nine new tracks seamlessly combines a powerful punch of pop, punk, garage and hardcore. From the exhilarating guitar-work on album opener and title-track ‘Lucid Again’, to the catchy melody lines on the first single ‘Dropped My Brain’ and commanding chorus on 9-minute epic ‘Not Coping’, these songs are exploding with the band’s signature distortion-drenched sound and rambunctious energy, however the record is distinctly different from their previous releases and is especially evident from the scuzzy-psychadelia infused throughout.
Latest release from Butter Sessions is a Sleep D and Albrecht La'Brooy 12" called From 50 ep. Nice piece of silky, late night techno.
The Singing Skies - Head In The Trees, Heart On The Ground LP Their second album has just arrived. The band features Kell from Moonmilk, Jon Hunter (Holy Soul), Lia Tsamoglou (Melodie Nelson), cellist Robin Dixon and drummer Ben James. Even features a guest spot from Jack Ladder.
Buzz Kull - Chroma LP Buzz Kull is Sydney electronic artist Marc Dwyer. This catchy bit of dark synth pop is on Burning Rose, the label that put out the solo tape by Mitch from Lowlife.
