Welcome to our weekly update, a highlights package of the week in Repressed Records.

Firstly, what have we enjoyed listening to this week?

Golem “Orion Awakes” came out “circa1976” it says here, produced by Genius P Orridge under the name Toby Robinson. Great bit of krautrock inspired psych made by anonymous musicians who were apparently from some of the major German outfits. Anyway, check it out! Twisted Roots are a lesser known band from the creative hotbed that was the LA Punk scene of the late 70s/early 80s. Labeled by some as “New Wave” but there’s some ambitious and interesting musical ideas here, at least in the context of a punk scene. Features the amazing Kira Roessler from Black Flag, her brother Paul who played in The Screamers and Germs guitarist Pat Smear. All their classic material is collected here on one LP. Sleeping Beauties feature members of the awesome Hunches and Eat Skull. Really love this album. Sound is somewhere between crazed early 70’s Iggy and crazed late 70’s Alex Chilton on In The Red Records. Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion technician is some crazy stuff. One of the best of the 80’s. Listened to Human Cannonball about ten times this morning. We hear and feel new things every time we play the Pancrace 2xLP on Penultimate Press. Otherworldly drones and strange frequencies from the Pipe Organ, Bird Calls, Baroque Violin, Tin Whistle, Boîtes à Bourdons, Landscape Piano, Motorised Bow, Standuino Pi Synth, Microphones, Hurgy Toys, AM radio, Church Bells, Uilleann Pipes and Hulusi. I have no idea what some of those things are but from listening to this record I’d assume they’re some type of scared/medieval instrument used for sorcery.

2nd Hand Update!  Loads and loads of new stuff across all genres on vinyl and CD. Outkast, Buffalo, Joy Division, Lighthouse Keepers, Nas on 2nd hand vinyl. A very rare Cure “Boys Don’t Cry” 7” Oz pressing with different sleeve. Punk 7”s from The Mob and a very rare hip-hop 12” by Ringmaster called These Rhymes Are My Rhymes”.Hell, we’ve even got in a bunch of 2nd hand tapes.

Feature Items:

Idylls - The Barn LP (Blackwire)  Latest release from Blackwire Records. Tense, dissonant post-punk from Brisbane. For fans of Shellac, Jesus Lizard and Birthday Party.

Bronx - V LP Less Mariachi, for straight up fun punk. On coloured vinyl.

Metz - Strange Peace LP  These guys sit somewhere between the pummeling post-punk of Shellac and the more cerebral Dischord bands like Rites Of spring or Nation Of Ulysses.

Orb - Naturality  Second album released on Flightless Records from Geelong’s Orb. Their first on Anti-Fade Records “Birth” was a bit of a slow burner, but this one should kick off straight away I think. Very catchy, psych/stoner rock. For lovers of a bit of Sabbath worship on white and blue marbled vinyl. (Out Friday)

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard With Mild High Club - Sketches Of Brunswick  LP Guess who’s back? But this time they’be brought a friend,  Mild High Club (Alex Brettin who tours with Mac Demarco)
to spicen up activities a bit

File Folder - Roaring In The Dark Tape (Vaant Valley)  Only got a handful, it’s an edition of 60 copies, so no dawdling. Odd little synth driven New Zealand post-punk duo that reminds me of B-52’s, Cured Pink, Devo or even Pere Ubu a tad.

Wand - Plum LP  Fourth album from psych stoners

Marihiko Hara - Habit LP   Memoirs is a pretty new label based in the NSW southern highlands.. Their first LP release is from Japanese experimental musician Marihiko Hara. The album is a collective of improvised piano takes and field recordings devised by the composer's own 'habit' of processing and editing raw phases to explore electroacoustic and textural sounds to blend in harmony. Habit is what the composer describes as a scenery mirrored on the surface of water, or perhaps himself lying underneath.

Faceless Burial - Grotesque Miscreation. Some great oz metal doing the rounds now. Can’t wait for this one. Feat. members of Agents Of Abhorrence, White Walls, Internal Rot and The Stevens.

Peter Black (AKA Blackie from the Hard-Ons) has a solo tape that just arrived here all the way from Japan. It’s called Maybe If I Took My Headphones Off. 200 copies with digital download.

The Courtney Barnett / Kurt Vile LP “Lotta Sea Lice” will be here next Friday (13th October)

U.S Import shipment just arrived. Here’s a run down.
