Welcome to our weekly update, a highlights package of the week in Repressed Records.
Firstly, what have we enjoyed listening to this week? Been really enjoying the Alex Cameron LP “Forced Witness”. More satirical take on masculinity than cheap irony, he’s a character who’s simultaneously pathetic, funny and at times touching, like when he’s meeting women online aware it’s more than likely someone scamming him. More of Bass Clef - Acid Tracts double LP have arrived and it’s a great piece of off kilter yet danceable electronics. Been a favourite ‘round here for ages. Few more copies of the Mikey Young tapes and vinyl are in now. Be quick as they’re excellent and quite in demand.
Hey! Good News.
Beaches Double LP is finally with us.
Laurel Halo - Dust has been re-stocked
Terry - Remember has been re-stocked
This Weeks Feature Items:
The Oh Sees - Orc (2 LP) Customer faves from waay back, but I can’t believe they’ve been around for 20 years and 19 albums? Geez!
Bomber Jackets - Kudos To the Bomber Jackets LP Their previous album Lister has been a fave around here for a while, and this album doesnt disappoint. Dry, bleak stuff but we love it.
Nun With Enderie Tape Melbourne and Sydney come together! Synth punks Nun recorded a track called Immersion in 2011, then got Sydney’s very own Andrew Mclellan (who as Enderie had made some of our favourite music this year.) to remix it and then remix it again but different. Dark, menacing and kinda loopy.
Low Life - Dogging (Re-issue) One of our best selling albums ever, originally released by Disinfect and RIP Society, has been re-issued by UK record label ALTER. Great piece of dark, grimey Sydney punk.
Residents - Snakey Wake LP Recorded in 1987 as a tribute to their late guitarist Snakefinger. First time vinyl pressing and comes with studio album and live performance.
Flesh World - Into The Shroud LP Not to be confused with the Aussie Flesh World (whose Idiot Convention tape is a must hear for fans of Void, Die Kreuzen). This is the San Fran Flesh World that shares members with Limp Wrist and Brilliant Colours, with previous releases on Iron Lung and La Vida Es Un Mus Discos. This is their 2nd long player.
We’ve also got in series three of tape releases from Nice Music in Melbourne. Generally they deal in electronic music that is “interesting” but still “bangz”.... They also dabble in realms that could be considered Progressive (in the Soft Machine sense of the word) and ambient sounds…
Match Fixer - Attempts EP Andrew Cowie of Angel Eyes (Bedroom Suck, Not Not Fun) brings new material as Match Fixer to Nice Music for the first release proper under this name on 'Attempts' - four epic dialogues dense with the weight of information, experience and tumult
Simon J Karis - Madrugada Simon Karis has crafted an ambitious narrative arc, tangible through the presence of sculpted sound and ecstatic melody alone rather than words or literal description
Cooper Bowman - Arid Fault Melbourne's Cooper Bowman (head of Altered States Tapes) continues on through the ambient wasteland recently carved out on ventures under his own name. Arid Fault' is a static cycle in which time itself ceases with a sandy gust of relief. For fans of Robert Turman, The Nightcrawlers.
Skyline - I Fresh from opening our 15th Anniversary show at Vivid,Skyline are back with their debut release. Skyline, comprised of Dand David Akerman of Dead Farmers (RIP Society). The duo's thoughtful attention to crystalline sonic detail conjures a rich glow around the edges of their elongated ambient synth and piano plateaus. Dutiful care has been taken with the mix over these four pieces, each gleaming with a warm and very genuine incandescence, whilst resisting the triteness or stuffiness of much modern ambient stock. Pristinely engaging, 'I' brims with light and love and charms the listener closer still with each visit. A quiet blessing. For fans of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Flower for PlayStation3.
Maria Moles And Adam Halliwell - Not One, Not Zero As well as performing and recording solo Moles has played percussionist/drummer in backing groups for critically lauded idiosyncratic songwriters Jaala (Wondercore Island) and Francis Plagne, while Halliwell has contributed as a guitarist with Hyperborea (Nice Music), Mildlife and leads his own First Baboon Civilisation (Moontown)
Compound - Eternal Estate A debut release from Melbourne's Per Bystrom (Exhaustion, Ooga Boogas) as a solo artist, emerging from an intense period of gestation and realisation as Compound. Bystrom has constructed a purely synthetic vocabulary as his expressive ammunition on 'Eternal Estate' - plaintive swathes of sines and gravelled synth tones ululate in and out of haunted futurist rhythms
