Slimelord - Chytridiomycosis Relinquished LP

The debut full length from UK “Swamp Death” band Slimelord is a serious and surreal ride. They’ve certainly carved out a space of their own in the ripe/crowded current landscape of Death Metal, and even the Death Doom sub-region.

Like fellow countryfolk Vacuous there’s an atmosphere I’d pinpoint to interesting junctions in UK music history. I abstractly perceive the melting pot of crust, post and peace-punk with heavy metal on the tense social backdrop of industrial decline that became the unrigid world of early Earache and Peaceville Records.

Concrete wind tunnel vocals meet dive bombs, harmonic squeals, melodic interplay and general pre-“extreme metal” guitar trickery morphing into a hypnotic post-industrial slurry. Like a triumphant, new and eccentric reclamation of Godflesh. - Nic
